Damp Proofing
When it comes to improving properties in the UK one common problem there is to tackle are damp issues which can cause all kinds of problems if not dealt with in the right way and if it is the wrong type of damp identified. Some types of damp are from condensation inside, rising damp which comes up through the ground and penetrating through the walls.

Penetrating damp and solutions.
Penetrating damp is is an issue seen with many older properties typically with solid walls and lime mortar. If someone in this scenario is suffering from this we would typically recommend the wall is either ground out and repointed or rendered with the same material as before (lime mortar or render) to allow the property to breath in turn preventing the chance of the house sweating and condensation buildup. We also in this scenario recommend treating the wall with a water repellent cream such as Stormdry Masonry Cream which creates a waterproof barrier on the outside brickwork but still allows the house to breath.
Rising damp
Rising Damp is also an issue which is very common in the UK especially in older properties with no or a poor DPC. The best solution we have come across in tackling this issue is by doing dry rod DPC injections which dry out the damp in the bottem of the wall and created a waterproof barrier to act as a DPC in itself.

Another solution is in the scenario where any rainwater doesn't have any where to drain and the back splash is causing rising damp in the home, we would normally recommend installing french drainage (a natural drain) wherever paving meets the property to allow any water to drain away instead of sitting and causing problems.
